Camp Pohono 6800 Meadow densely grassed with [Leersia] 6 to 8 ft hanging away from valley In noble forest of [Picea] grandis over 200 ft high [favorite] place of deer & bears From Slotted rock to Cath [Cathedral] Rocks the valley wall slopes away to the Pohono basin Slotted Rock slots extending in direction of face of Tissiack & of Sent [Sentinel] Dome

Many examples here of perp [perpendicular] & overhanging rocks. This part of valley edge most gorged & jagged of all Sheer walls of thousands of feet in all kinds of combinations [peaks] & [cones] Spires & columns in most [astonishing] variety & grouping This angular [startling] style of rock sculpture never found on N [north] side of [cañons] is produced by lingering shadow glacierets
