31 My favorite mead N of Soda Springs Alt 9600 not yet in full flr 1 m long curved a little at W end where Hoff [Mt Hoffman] is seen in noble view, Dana & Gibbs at other quite narrow, nearly straight velvet lawn, brown boles of spring trees in long perspective pale gray bouldery mor banks Orthocarp red coming fast Yel paths of small potentilla & v small St. Johnswort, Vac. [ ], blue penstemon strawberry Eunanus Yel forget me nots, deep pools

July 28 Unicorn pk Lake & meads [sod] mostly dwarf Vac. in full flr beaut bells pink 10 to sq inch

Aug 1 Round Mead in glory of color, wondrous change in few days since going down canon with Wanda & Mr Burkes. Then the flrs were comparatively few & the large co[company] of Sierra Club members were disappointed in finding gl meads in gen so scantily flr furnished after reading my book – only polygonums penstemons (blue) [confortum], violas dandelion etc. Now acre patches of magenta orthocarpus yel ivesia (mousetail mostly) or potentilla, yel dandelion yel Eunanus 4 in h & v small ones in sod patches, Yel potentilla short stemmed on meads, Yel St. Johns wort v small, Vac. dwarf, Live forever pale white, Large patches of bright blue seen from afar due to pale gray silky lvd lupine, stems 3 or 4 in h Blue penstemon 5 to 10 in h making also large patches of color but less dense & effective Mead about m. l. & wide. No Gentians as yet, but a few solitary
