Fine sunny day Started for W gl[acier] at 7 o’clock in launch The view up glorious. 4 cascading gls[glaciers] descending in jagged white torrent, strange, silent & seemingly motionless through the rich green furred pastures of the mtn[mountain] goats alder willow beds of bryunthus etc & alpine bloom in [general] [Sketch of glacier from side – no caption] 2 of these 4 cascades send off a few bergs from well formed front Mr. [Gan[nett]] was busy with map work The naturalists shooting birds in the bushes & along shore & collecting gull & tern eggs on moraine. Both kinds dull earth colored Soon Mr Har[riman] came with other launch. Children played on sand – gathered flrs[flowers]. The [main] gl[acier] has glorious tribs[tributaries] swooping down from mtns[mountains] pure white [Sketch: 3rd cascade. Looking down fiord]
