Fine springy day. Had a call from Mr Swett & from the Coleman brothers.
Herons beginning to assemble on their old nests - perhaps 20 have arrived
Monday 10
Warmer, rather cloudy, bar. [barometer] falling
X Wrote to Mr Aronson advising climates for lungs
X Sent $7 50/100 order on P. U. & Co to Mr Armes
Had letter from Mr S.V. Smith thanking me for kind words I sent him the other day.
Tuesday 11
Warm spring day.
X Sad news by the papers of Mrs Upham's death. Sudden attack of apoplexy.

Fine California spring day
Received $83 50/100 from the Century Co [Company] as royalty on book.
X Sent receipt for the above. Am making very slow headway with writing.

# Warm summery, a peach tree is now in bloom.
* There are 31 heron nests among the sycamores on on Alhambra Crk [Creek] 13 on one tree, (all the nest trees are sycamores growing on the bank of the Valley Creek). The overflow from the regular heronry consists of about a dozen nests on large oaks on the hills to the westward

Rather cool. Took my first ride up the Valley since my sickness, Also walked in the PM with Helen. Nuttalia Ribes Laurel buttercup in flower. Apricot in flower just coming
X Wrote to Mr Aronson, & to Sierra Club & sent royalty receipt.
Bees and butterflies aboundant.
