Valley flor mostly a trampled pasture - miles of wire fence and kinds - miserably betters shrubbery - put up at Cooks. Sep. 8 Visited Mirror Lake nearly dry Clouds Rest, Watkins and S Dome all visible. Sep. 9 Left Valley by Big Oak route at 7. Reached Crockers alt 4.500 at 1pm. Stayed over, charming pine woods, hazel conifer etc. Time of asters and golden rods ceanoyhus sparsafolia rare Time of asters daisies helimious soldedago in val. viola white still in flr in meads 3 small Indian camps still in valley. Indian canyon and w side Yo crk and down near old Black Hotel - Some very old 100? Crawling in wrinkles and rags, Gray - gazing moving with almost imperceptible motion, like sleepy bears.
