35 [Sketch: waterfall and river] it. The channel seems to have changed but slightly [ ] its glacier [ ] The water is 36 perfectly lovely in its tones of blue & green after its long rest in the Boden Sea. From how many glaciers are its waters drawn. The gentle rapids above the falls in certain lights & conditions of the sky are if possible more beautiful than the fall itself. Immediately above the fall the water is almost lake-like in stillness. In the late afternoon the iris colors in the flame-like wafts & jets & convolving sheets of spray & dust are very striking & fine in great part of its course down to Basle. The river seems tame & dull
