31 in the [Chiviano] dining room a good example of Italian taste, also the ceiling- like an exquisite shell. Elevation of Moritz about 5500. 5 small gls [glaciers] visible. Curving bill on Mtn top near Sargans on branch road to Roaghadr. Magnificent broad vals both the one to Chur-Zurich & the one to Roerchach[Rorschach] from Sargans 1300 ft. ab sea [above sea level] [Large sketch in middle of page -mountaintop with large overhang like “a curving bill”] 32 Fluchthorn Pass about 6800. Scenery [most] striking. A few glaciers [Fine]wild ride from [Davos platz] to [Landquart]. Fine forests. Heath at top& Rhododendron or alpine rose. Saw a dwarf pine in abundance, dwarfed for [blow] other fair sized spruce perhaps cembra [pinus cembra=swiss pine]. The dwarfing did not apparently depend strictly on direction as in 1500 ft. I could see no difference in size & the broad patches abundantly fruitful grew among spruce of 30 or 40 ft. high. The dwarf about 6 ft.
