18 Sep. Fair wind. Dull leaden sky. Temp. 45. The “Corwin” slashing grandly on towards home. 180 miles from St. Mathews Island at 7 P.M., when we changed course for St. Paul. Sorry I cannot hear the testimony this rock has to give on the direction of the flow of the Behring Sea ice sheet. 19 Sep. Temp. 48. Fair wind. Making direct for St. Paul’s Island. Dull uneventful day. Slight showers. 20 Sep. Head wind, heavy sea. Much tossing about, but making little headway. Would have got into St. P[aul’s] about noon today had wind held from the N. Now it may be midday tomorrow or later ere we arrive.
