Passed Point Hope at dark. Aug. 21 Clear until7 P.M. Sighted land about 6 P.M. Passed the Diomedes about 9 P.M., without seeing them. The sun sets before 8 now, yet there is twilight even until near midnight, the sun is so short a distance below the horizon. Soon there will be 7 or 8 hrs. or genuine night.
