they had taken from the wreck, viz. a pair of field glasses, a pair of silver spectacles, a whale harpoon, 2 knives, and a few coins. 4 men, they said, were lying dead in the cabin, 3 in bed and 1 on the floor. The masts had been cut down. The wreck afterwards drifted away to N.E. She was discovered last fall when the new winter ice was forming and the sun did not set. The party were kindly used by all the natives. They passed several flocks of reindeer. June 30. Dropped anchor about 7 A.M. opposite a native village on the S. side of Cape East. But the howling, shrieking norther blew all day, and had not abated at eleven o’clock last night. Not being able to land our driver at Tapkan where his home is, we hoped to be able to put him ashore here, but no boat has been able to leave the vessel as yet. We do not care to take him farther since our experience with natives, so we have lain here all day, hoping to get him off. East Cape is a very bold bluff of granite 2000 feet high, which evidently has been overswept from the N.W?
