28 [solemn] growling grinding sounds of huge [mountains] not far off wh [which] contrast with the network of sweet low whistling voiced whispery [fluty voiced] rills these [last ] sing like birds [whistle] glinting gliding with [undescribed] softness & sweetness of voice They are all around me one within a few
feet of my bed. 7th day July 17 Another glorious cloudless day is dawning [opening] in yellow & purple & pale [over the land of ice.] & a thousand blue [shadows] strike out sparkling over the vast [expanse of the gl] white prairie Slept well last night in the middle of the icy sea. The wind was cold but my fur bag enabled me to be warm Have no cough now the last vestige of it gone.
