25 gliding formed a network oftentimes difficult to cross with sled. Had to lift bodily at times most of the by traveled [ ] very uneven & hauling the sled & finding a way very fatiguing Had to cross narrow bridges of ice cautiously [showing] ahead of me with tremendous [chasing] on either side. Perhaps not more than 6 or 8 ms [miles] in a straight line. At 6 o clock reached

ice so hummocky & [ ] concluded to camp & take the sled no farther. Will leave it here in the middle of the basin & carry my sleeping bag & the provisions the rest of the way across to the West side. Am cozy and comfortable here. Made out to get a cup of tea by burning paper & a few [ ] & splinters from a portion of the [bottom]
