Left camp at 7 P.M. to cross main gl [glacier] 6 [crows] ravens came to camp as soon as I left This [without exception] is one of the loveliest morning I [ever] [saw] in Alaska not a cld [cloud] or faintest hint of one, Yellowish haze in E. whitish W. mild & mellow as Ind [Indian] Summer but finer more ethereal. Holy Light [not so thick] deserts hot makes all divine [&] [dry] sea deserts & [ice] deserts [The] St. Elias Range very clear now. Leaf like markings in the gl [glacier] Level with surface. A foot long dirt shows veins. Pale [ ] running around outline [sketch of leaf pattern] [sketch: Mt. Crillon]
