An old geological kitchen within a thousand boiling simmering pots no two exactly alike in wh [which] all sorts of mineral messes were being cooked stews boiled to the consistency of firm smooth paste-red & yellow pink & brown & pure creamy white like paint- boiled 1000s of yrs [years] & still boiling & spluttering night & day [within] & some as if not yet half cooked.
pots of yellow mush pots of broth-thin black as ink in huge [caves] with frightful hissing & belching like infernal-looking broth & thin pure translucent [watery] soup pure as crystal [boiling in] blue & green lovely colors pure as tints of the sky boiling in coral home made basins of ravishing beauty wh [which] [themselves] [moving] grandly the sun looks down into this busy kitchen. First the top of the columns of steam a 1000 ft high [catches] the light then [ ] down until all is glowing & the shadows of the pines are cast across the coral [ ] & sun & anon a grand column of water is shot into the sky & in every vessel pot & cup
& fountain something special is being prepared, for no two have the same temp [temperature] or color or have the same mixture of ingredients. All the metals & minerals forming the mtns [mountains] contained in it. Some perfectly calm with mirror surface reflecting the sky & a fringe of grasses & flowers leaning over its rim as if set away in the grass to cool some boiling gently simmering & bubbling without overflowing others splashing [tossing] & heaving belching with loud uproar casting tons of water in rugged masses to a height of 2 or 3 ft falling with irregular plashing showers on the [ ] & keeping onlookers at a distance while the ground shakes & heavy rumbling thunder sounds are heard far below
