All [thru] [wild] mtn [mountain] days done. [This] wide deliberate farm is maintained all way to lake. Current 2 to 3 ms. ruffled by fishes. [corris] bank. Low grassy & lightly [wooded]. Lake wild with hail & rain. Light on the lake & mtns [mountains[ in the morning.
4th day. Ride by trail along shore. Much fallen burned timber up & down over [washed] [mors] [moraines] sandy gravels from crumbling lavas [untouched]. Huckleberries Linnea Lovely lake [views] trout large yellowish skin with black spots like those of Walker, Pyramid, & etc.
Forest almost wholly of [twisted] pine. Cones persistent many yrs [years], from 75 to 100 ft h [feet high] 8 to 12 inch dia [diameter] v [very] slender straight growing beneath huckleberries.

Potentilla forming fringes around barley [springs] rather ranker than [injured] by heat within 1 inch of water. On sheets of mud deposit mimulus the chief plant. Rain. Lake gloomy hail-splashed.
