The boat being chartered by 12 persons at the rate of $60.00 per day to make an excursion to Chilcat, at the head of Chatham straits, to visit the Indian “Chilcats” – for missionary purposes by Drs. Jackson, Lindsey and Kendel and Mr. Young, Mr. Vanderbilt for business and pleasure, and four wives mostly of the missionaries – myself to see glaciers, etc. The distance was estimated at 250 miles and time 4 days * see pg 43 {Sketch: 3d glacier from largest going down the coast. }
