175 Mason Valley Oct 22nd Warm hazy golden days with frosty nights. Frost crystals hung on every grass blade & [ ] leaf purple evening & morning. The first day of Indian summer, the sky a fathomless ocean of blue ether with the constellations glowing with every tint mellowed never a cloud night or day. Nature in perfect repose flowers done blooming birds are full grown sky no cloud building as if never a storm a universal sabbath hallowed in perfect repose. Storm. in the val. [valley] clouds. Coyotes. [Grant] after storm seemed [local]. On summit white cloudy mtns Sierra. [Lake] Trout [ ] Inds [Indians]. Wild sheep corral. 2nd ascent. Clouds. In [ ] rolls black & snowy rarely modeled & [interblendended] rising & falling over the Sierra & Carson & Sweetwater with flurry billows up[ ] right in front above the Wassuck ridge with [ ]
