Glorious day on the [Wassuck] Mt [Mountain] Grunt. 11500 ft [high] many streams rose fringed few willows. V [very] narrow margined with garden. V [very] little nut pine on w [west] slopes on E [east] [the N] sides of main spurs or ribs fair growth. Flex from 10 to 11,000 nearly all dead all dead on W. slopes what has exterminated
31 the species. The Nevada mtns in gen [general] [truly] soil-covered & grassy “good feed” up to 10000 ft. Many fine flrs [flowers] [ ] one of the [grant] slopes Yellow with sedum. One penstimen [perfectly] flrd [flowered] -- flrs [flowers] large blue. Handsome erigerous spiraea white. Mtn [Mountain] Mahogany few willows. Many roses the glory of the Nevada [garden] stream bank flora. No violas No ferns. Dodecatheon [ab]. [Potentillas] The greater portion of the green of these mtns [mountains] is derived from [dwarfed] sage & [linosyris] . The latter with leaves curiously spiraled from right to left. Found nest of Alpine Sparrow with young to day in [ ] of lava rock on very summit.
