49 sculptured peaks make it unrivalled. We little know the grandeur from mtns The basin of Mid Fork is also very grand [abound] in lake & surrounded by mtns. These are Yo [Yosemite] vals [valles] with mtns for walls & with all the snowiness & general alpines of the Alps. Let those who go up the range only as far as Yo [Yosemite] & there presume to compare the Sierra with Alp bide a wee until he see our High Sierra Alps. The scenery of the 2nd great val S of Red Slate Mtn on the East side of range is the most sublime & most varied I have anywhere seen It contains rocks for a dozen Yos
