[1] [1914]Mr John MuirMartinez Calif.Dear Sir,In my eyes you are Gods beloved apostle John, of his natural Bible (the book of nature) as the apostle John of old was of his spiritual word (the Bible). The heavens and earth was Gods first Bible, for the spiritual was not first but the natural, as it is written the last shall be first and the first last. And so we find it, the spiritual Bible is the first in value but05904[2]neverless how glourious is Gods natural Bible and day to day it doth utter speech to us and night to night show forth knowledge. How important is this natural Bible for without it there would have been no spiritual Bible given, in fact it is the foundation of the spiritual Bible and should be most diligently studied as it is a most glorious word.. I also love a tent better than a05904[3]palace and Gods great outdoors better than a city. As I read your great book how I wished I could have been a substitute for Mr. Emerson when he declined to sleep out with you that night. How I long to meet you and rest at your feet and hear your beloved lips unfold the beautiful story of nature, and be in touch heart to heart with you. To even read your books is almost walking in the woods05904
