Well, - I have got ensnarled in meshes of worry, errands, material cares,- caught in the cogs of the machinery that enslaves us,- and, besides having to respond to the kindness of friends in social ways, have written a memorial form, and am even expected (woe's me!) to make dinner & [illegible] and indulge in vain repetitions as the heathen do.
