Martinez, California November 12th, 1914Darling Helen:I am glad always to hear that you and your merry family are well. I wish that I could be with you all the time and so I am, that is, the best of me, my good loving soul. Don't look for me till you see me. The confounded book is growing and growing about as fast as your little boy, but I'll be hanged if it has anything adorable about it. All the first crop grapes are gone, none left worth sending, but in a few days I will send you a box of quinces.Ever your loving father[illegible]
