California,December 2, 1914.My dear Dr. Muir:A few months ago I extended to you the invitation of the Pacific Coast Committee of the American Association for the Advancement of Science to serve as an Honorary Vice-President of a Committee of One Hundred concerned in a general way with plans for the meeting of the American Association which will be held in San Francisco and vicinity during the week beginning August 2nd, 1915.As I expressed in my previous letter, the Pacific Coast Committee desires to have the support in the Committee of One Hundred of the men and women who may be said to represent best the intellectual life of the Pacific region of North America, from Alaska to Mexico and from the Rocky Mountains to the Philippine Islands. It is not expected that the Committee of One Hundred will meet for active duty. In effect it will compose the background upon which the scientific interests of the Pacific region will on this occasion be seen in projection.05889
