Private & confidential[letterhead]May 8, 1911Dear Mr Colby,I came here last Thursday on H. H. immortal business with R. U. Johnson, & so far have had what looks like good luck. Had a long hearty telling talk with the President, three with Sec. Fisher. Lunched with Speaker Champ Clark & his wife & daughter & of course got in H. H. & Yosemite Park & parks in general, ably seconded by Johnson. Smoked & talked over the whole H. H. history with immortal Joe Cannon in his private room in the Capitol. Saw lots of senators & representatives & made an hour & a half speech on H. H. & parks at a grand dinner of the influential Boone & Crockett Club, standing beside the chairman & Secretary Fisher. This being the 4th time that I have met Sec. Fisher he must now know my side of the question fairly well.I never imagined I could stand so much dining & late hours. What with getting my Yosemite book finished & the other placed for publication I may not get off on my S. American trip until near the end of next month. My address will be as at present until at least the middle of June c/o R. U. Johnson, the Century Co., Union Square, New York.Send me a few copies of the H. H. pamphlet.Ever faithfully yoursJohn MuirHave dedicated "My First Summer" to the Sierra Club
