[in margin: Carruth]Oakland, Mar. 4, 1911Dear Mr. Muir:Many thanks for your kind appreciation of the "Book of Verses."I am greatly delighted at the news of a forthcoming Muir book, and I heard it whispered on a Sierra Club tramp last Sunday that possibly more than one book was in hand. Bravo!I am the possessor of "Stickeen," as I am of all your published volumes, and I think as an apotheosis of man's chief four-legged friend it is unrivaled even by such classics as Dr. John Brown's "Rah," Ouida's "Dog of Flanders," Jack London's "Call of the Wild" and Ma-04972
