HopkinsMontevideo, November 9, 1912 de 191Dr. John Muir,Martinez, Cal.Dear Doctor Muir:On this my Birthday, allow me to send myheartiest greetings to him who gave us our most pleasant andinspiring evening of the past year. Your visit to ourAssociation with the fresh breezes from the woods which youbrought us, is recalled with delight by all who were fortunateenough to be present that night.Since you were here our Association has grown from300 to 750 members, and we have taken the next floor inthe Building for additional room, as well as a large hall outsidefor a gymnasium.Dr. Goding recently showed me your letterof June 25th to him in which you mention having sent me some books. You must have thought me very inappreciative, but the fact isI have not yet received them. I appreciate very much yourkindness, and especially as I have been reading those you sentthe Consul and find them the most happy reading I have ever done.About a half-dozen friends read "Stickeen" in the few days I hadit. I am now reading with keen pleasure "My First Summer inthe Sierras".I hope to be in the United States next year,05296
