Los Angeles, Cal., May 20, 1910.Dear Mr. Hanna:-I enclose bill of the City Street Improvement Company for work done on Utah and Mariposa Streets. You will of course hand it to the lawyer who has the business in charge. I understood you to say that the bill would not be payable for several months after the completion of the work.I am much obliged to you for your long letter, assuring me that all of Helen's hilltop has been put in good smooth clean shape, and that her rubber plant is being watered. I have just returned from a six day trip to the Grand Canyon with Mr. Hooker and two of his friends, and on the way saw Helen and Buel for a few minutes at Barstow. She is looking a little thin but assures me that she is perfectly well and that her slight falling off in bulk is due only to the hot weather as usual.I expect to be home about the end of the month and will be very glad to see you all, especially the two boys.I think I told you or Wanda that one of the books has gone to the publishers who propose to bring it out as soon as possible. I have two others partly written, and in general have been successful in getting my old manuscript dictated at Pelican Bay into pretty near final shape, with a good many additions. Out of it I think I can extract enough to make the bulk of a young folks' animal "book.
