Los Angeles, Cal., November 7, 1910. Darling Helen:- As long as you are going higher up the mountain I don't care anything about the business part of your plans. You are both all right anyhow, although I am very sorry to hear that there should be any lack of cordiality between you and the Van Dykes. Since you are feeling splendid, then so am I. Your taxes are paid on your Martinez property, and all the rents are paid for a year on the pasture. I am still pegging away at the fifth book, which I think I willcall "When I was a Boy." Mrs. Jones, whom you will remember, sends her love to you andbids me say that she is trying her best to play Helen for me. Ever your devoted father, [illegible]
