Martinez, Jan. 1, 1896Sister Annie.David came over day before yesterday with all the notes mother gave him when he gave her the house & I got out the three you & mother gave me & we counted up the whole indebtedness interest & all & found it amounted to $3016.43.Now David says that the priceagreed on definitely for the house & lots between him & mother was $2600, but because he had planed a $500 mortgage on the property he refuesd to take more than $2100 with the understanding that the balance $500 would be allowed when the mortgage was lifted. Therefore the balance due you is $416.43. He agreed to send you $100 at once, in case you should be in need & to send the balance, & lift the mortgage as soon as the inheritenace money arrives, then all will be square between you & him. As to whether $2600 was too much for the house & lots is not my business nor yours. it was the prior agreed on between mother & David. I have no reason to dought that David has kept a perfectly true & complete acct from the beginning. Tursting you will now be satisfied & wishing you a Happy New Year & all the family the same I am ever your brother John.
