Santa Barbara,Washington's Birthday, 1910.My dear Dr. Muir: Your very kind letter came to me while I was at "The Foothills", where I spent three of the happiest weeks I ever knew riding in the glorious Ojai and in the surrounding mountains. I asked about your visits there and people said you had never been there,--Mr. Thacher said he had begged in vain for a visit. To me it was truly a Valley of Delight . I hoped I could say immediately that I would pay youthe much anticipated call on a definite day this week, but my friends have detained me in Santa Barbara until now. We go to Monterey tomorrow, and I hope we shall be in San Francisco Saturday or Monday. My first thought will be to find out whether you are at home and can reoeive me. We sail for Honolulu March 8th, and before I leave this dear California I hope I shall meet you whose name and words seem interwoven with the life of the country.Yours sincerely,Mabel C. Gage04711
