ColliersTHE NATIONAL WEEKLY4|6 WEST 13TH STREETNEW YORKOUT DOOR AMERICAEDITED BY CASPAR WHITNEYOctober 9th, 1909.Dear Mr. Muir:Can i not get you, I wonder, to write a short paper of say—two thousand words on—What the Mountains mean to Me, or What the Open Weans to Me, or What the Country Means to me My thought is, a paper from you that will serve to tempt others into the open. Most people seem to think that an elaborate caravan and corresponding equipment is necessary to sleep a night or two out of doors.OUTDOOR AMERICA, as you know, is an out-door missionary, and any paper from you would carry great weight with our readers. I should be pleased to have a cheque of one hundred dollars sent you for a paper such as I suggest. Of course, if my suggestion does not appeal to you, any other title that you prefer would be agreeable to me.By the way, I have sent by this post under separate cover, your little book—Stickeen—which I want very much to have you autograph for me.Sincerely yours, casper WhiturJohn Muir, Esq.,Martinez, Cali fornia.Diotatedw/s04603
