Home June 17, 1909 —Darling Helen, The cherries I sent yesterday are from your own trees. They were very fine but on account of a break in the Franklin tunnel they were 2 days old before they left here. There were about 150 lbs beside what birds & boys devoured. About 50 lbs went to the city to swell your last account (which now by the way is in Bank about $15000. drawing interest.) & 50 lbs were used in a grand dinner I gave yesterday or day before to nine notables, John Burroughs & Miss Barns, & Mrs Ashley. Mr & Mrs Hart, Mr & Mrs Finct, Charlie Keeler, Mrs Symonds, & one more, name forgotten About 1/2 came by auto from Berkeley the others by rail. The tunnel's all right again. It's dark, cold, & cloudy today - was the same yesterday. Had another auto load of visitors from Berkeley last Sunday, Mrs Vroman, Miss Vrorman, Mr Pierce, Mr Colby & his two boys. Bertha is still gaining strength. & the babies are flourishing the boy is named for me so is Wanda's so there will be no lack of Muirs of one sort or other. I'm pegging away at old notes getting them ready for [use?] Stickeen is selling well & making his mark Lovingly your father John Muir
