Martinez, Cal., Dec 20, 1909.Hon. Richard A. Ballinger,Secretary of the Interior,Washington, D. C.Dear Mr. Ballinger:-We would respectfully suggest that the City of San Francisco be allowed the right to use. Lake Eleanor, Cherry River and Poopenaut Valley as reservoir sites but that it be given the privilege of acquiring the rights and public land necessary for such use within those sites only on condition that it exchange and surrender to the National Government the patented lands which it now owns in Hetch-Hetchy Valley. Could not the Public Lands Committees in Congress be urged to amend oity's bill so as to accomplish this?Faithfully yours,[Illegible]
