William KentKentfield, Marin Co., Cal.,_Oct. 27,1908 190Mr. John Muir,Martinez, Cal.My dear Mr. Muir:Mr. J. E. Lewis, candidate for State Senator, as asked me to commend him to you. He is a candidate on the Democratic ticket and is singularly able and efficient. He is in the real estate business here and formerly ran a saloon which he abandoned, I believe, out of dislike for the business and a sense of public decency. His opponent, Mr. E. B. Martinelli, is a lawyer of good ability and high character. From my standpoint he is rendered ineligible by his connection with the corporations hereabouts. The interests of these corporations are in some points hostile to the public interests and while Mr. Martinelli is a friend whom I highly esteem I am sorry that he is a candidate. I have no desire to butt into local politics and should not have written you this letter except that Mr. Lewis requested it. Some way or other I feel that after all I have gone through I am entitled to rest up as far as politics are concerned.I hope you will come over to see us again and take more time to see the Woods.Yours truly,William Kent04308
