[letterhead]Jan 17 1908My dear Mr MuirThe suit for condemnation of the 47 acres in the heart of Muir Woods is still pending.There is little doubt of the outcome. At the same time no better thing can be done than to continue to arouse public opinion as to the present and future value to the people of this beautiful and restful wilderness.I wish you could write a letter which I can publish leaving out anything laudatory of my action, but stating your view of the value of the property and the hope that adjoining owners may unite in a plan of timber preservation which may save the whole landscape and thereby benefit all people without injuring the owners.
