[letterhead]Oct 22 1908Dear PapaYour note with the two sad letters inclosed reached me day before yesterday. I had received a letter from Mrs Bailey just the day before telling of her Uncle's death. I was glad that I had written to him this summer.Mr Van Dyke got home yesterday afternoon and said to tell you that George W. James has succeeded in getting all the pictures he wanted from that German Artist and that the poor fellow was almost starving now - just as you warned him it would be. Here on the ranch they are getting the last hay cutting off. It is getting cold, frost in the mornings. Today is glorious and sunny. I am gaining in weight for I eat big meals. Am feeling fine. Received a splendid crate of grapes yesterday - the best yet.Write and tell me all the news.Lovingly Helen04304
