Daggett, Ca. June 20thDear Papa -I got my cherries this afternoon - I had forgotten that such wonderful cherries grew, even on my trees. Oh they are so good, Ive been feasting ever since I got the box open. I took it first to Mr Van Dyke to see and eat some, then to Funks, and when I told them all that these great cherries came from my own trees they enjoyed them more than ever. The way you packed them they came through without a single bruised one - in fine shape.Mary got home this afternoon from her visit with Mrs Manson and Alice, in San Bernardino and she brought me a lot of flowers - roses, sweet peas, honeysuckle and jasmine, and my little shanty is very gay and sweet this evening, and I feel very rich and happy. With loving folks to think of me - cherries and flowers, and a warm desert, what more could one want? [in margin: I wrote to Mr. James Merriam today. as Mrs Bailey said he wanted to hear. All well.
