[letterhead]to take long rides over the plateaux hereabouts studying the wonderful fossil forests of the Carboniferous period which flourished over an extensive area in glorious luxuriance in this plateau region, - pines, arancarias lepidodendrons, sigillarias, calamites, tree ferns etc opening most impressive & magnificent views into God's auld lang syne. This hard work & hard enjoyment I find good for all sorrow & care. The photograph came safely & is very fine though at first sight I hardly recognized you in it. The papers too I have to thank you for, Letters sent here or to Martinez will reach me as they are forwarded to wherever I happen to be. Should you come to America again be sure to stop off & visit us at Adamana & I'll show you a grand lot of geological wealth With kindest wishes I am ever faithfully & gratefully yours John Muir.03697
