DANIEL CARTER BEARD,FLUSHING, L.I.December 19, 1907.Mr. John Muir,Martinez, California. My dear Mr. Muir:-I am sending you a copy of my latest book, one of an edition of twelve copies. In the hurry to have these books published before the holidays, several obvious typographical errors have occurred and probably some others which have escaped my eye, but the original notes from which the most serious parts of the book were written, were carefully and conscientiously made and I trust some of them may be of value to even persons like you of wide research and observation, and that the fake stories may at least prove amusing.03996Kindly remember that the book is written for boys and I have endeavored to make it more interesting by the introduction of some fanciful camp fire stories intermixed with the more serious notes end drawings. I am,Cordially yours,[illegible]
