recession of YosemiteMartinez, Jan. 30, 1897Mr. L. P Lukens,Dear Mr Lukens,I have just received your telegram on the recession of Yosemite, & also todays paper which shows that the bill [illegible] to the Assembly has been referred to the Committee on public lands & forestry.I send telegram asking for full address of Mellick & Simpson & the chairman of pub Lands Committee. To all of whom I will write.A week ago we had a directors meeting of the Sierra Club at wh Olny offered a resolution in favor of recession. Most of the directors were in favor of it. But because it was opposed by our Sec McAllister & Prof Davidson a vote was not taken awaiting a full board meeting & unanimity.I'm very glad the question has been fairly launched in the Assembly, & sooner or later I think it must succeed, as it has all reason & common sense on its side.Ever Yours trulyJohn Muir
