[letterhead]Mr. John Muir.Martinez Calif. My Dear Mr MuirI am sending in to-day, my resignation from the Directors of the Sierra Club. I am to be absent from our University for a year, on leave. - taking my sabbatical year. I have been somewhat run down for the past two years, and intend to take some rest and travel.I am notifying Mr. Colby as Secretary, but I write to you to express to you personally the great satisfaction it has been to me to be associated with you in a work and in objects I was deeply interested in. It was one of the greatest pleasures of my life in California, and I need not add, a great honor.I congratulate you that the work in which you led so many years, slowly building up a public sentiment, has advanced so rapidly during the later years. With the sincerest regard and respect,I am yours truly, W. R. Dudley.03763
