Rolf with whom we dined. He has a charming family & is a fine fellow. Then Prof Anderson & Mrs Anderson drove up from Menlo Park & we had a good visit with them also. At 1/2 past 4 o'clock we took the train for the city. Charlie caught the 6 o'clock ferry boat & would get home by 7. Having 2 hrs on my hands I got on a street car & went up Market to Valencia & had a good general view of the desolate city It is wonderful how rapidly new temporary buildings are going up, many are already finished & look as if meant to be permanent. I got to May's at ten & found nobody at home. so had to go over to the old home where John Reid found a bed for me, or rather made one up in a room at head of the stairs The first time Ive slept in the house for nearly a year. May & Arthur &
