[letterhead]Adamana, Arizona, Sep. 4, 1905Dear Mr Trout:My wife died suddenly on the 6th of last month, my daughter Helen has been sick a long time from the effects of a severe attack of pneumonia two years ago. For her sake we are all here in the dry desert air & I am glad to say she is now much better & with her sister Wanda takes long saddle rides of 30 miles or more without fatigue. She will be here a month or two longer. But I'll be able to leave here & meet you anywhere. Therefore keep me informed of your plans & address as before Martinez, Cal. & your letters will be forwarded. I've been deadly tired from the straining burdens of the last month but not "critically ill" as reported in the press. Hoping to see you old friend ere long.I am faithfully yoursJohn Muir
