J.D. HOOKER COMPANYINCORPORATED. LOS ANGELES, CAL. June 20th, 1905. Mr. John Muir, Palm Springs, Riverside County, California. My dear Mr. Muir:- I have a letter from my brother at the ranch, saying that there are free camping grounds at the Springs, but no tents. People should take their own camping outfit with them. There are a few old stoves there, and any labor that is required Mr. Van Valoe can give. There is a good garden, and plenty of fresh meat, - mutton - to be had. He says also, - "In case of any storm or emergency, my room at the house there is at their service, and all that is in it. I will ask Mr. Van Valoe to show Mr. Muir all possible attention, which I know he will give anyway. As for conveyance to the Springs, that can be had at Soto Bros., or Morgan & Co., Wilcox, at reasonable prices. I am not situated to take parties to the Springs at present, as my teams are full}' occupied and will be for the next three months." By the foregoing, you will see that it will be all right for you to go from Wilcox to the Springs and stay there as long as you may wish. It is a section of Arizona which I think will interest you, and possibly the warm springs may interest your daughters. I am glad you have found Palm Springs to your liking. For myself, roasting is very unpleasant. I may have some further information for you regarding this trip in a day or two. If so, I will address you at Palm Springs not later than Friday morning. I think that with the information
