[letterhead][1]Sep 17. 1896My dear little/Helen & Wanda & MamaThe train started so soon that I had to hurry to jump on after talking half a minute to May & Jessie Reid. & so I did not get to the window to wave to you a last goodbye for the trip. So yu must excuse me, for I feel bad about it. We had a pretty comfortable trip on the cars - not very hot or dustry. Mr Magee & Tommie & Fred were on board on their way to Kings River Yosemite & I understand them to our party & had good chat & talk.02149[1][letterhead]Tomorrow morning we get up at 4 (& start at 5 for Mineral King on the Kaweah where the military camp is. It will be a very long ride of 59 miles of rough rocky dusty road. but much of the way will be through grand pines & firs & [lebacedrus?], douglas spruce & sequoia, & then everything has been pleasantly arranged for us. From here to the foothills we will ride in light surrys then we will change horses & ride the rest of the way in a stage with four horses & be accomodated with beds & everything by the officers in charge Now I must go to bed, good night Happy dreams. take good care of yourself dear Helen & God care for you & bless you all.Ever your loving friend & fatherJohn Muir02149
