Original in possession of Mr. Charles Moores.Martinez,California.February 18,1905Dear Mr. Moores:I thank you for your kind sad letter. I never forget friends but Janet I have loved ana admired well nigh forty years;ever since as a little girl she brought flowers to brighten my dark room when my fate threatened to be about as sad as her own has proved. She last news before your letter I got from Katie Graydon at Honolulu giving no hope of rest but in Heaven, and how blessed is that rests: It is a great comfort to me,and must be to you all that before the coming of clouds and darkness her life was full of light and love, that she lived long enough to know and enjoy the best the world has to give, & to bless all who knew her.I shall always remember her as she was when she first came into my heart, happy & Beautiful & altogether lovely.I pray God to comfort your long suffering mother and all of you.Ever faithfully your friend.John Muir30522
