[First draft of letter, in note-book] [Robert Underwood Johnson] Martinez, March 6,'05.Dear Mr. Johnson: I greatly enjoyed your reply to my telegram. Where now is John P. Irish? He has not appeared in the fight at all, but some months before the bill was prepared he stated in an address before a Hort[icultural] So[ciety] that he was in favor of Federal management for Yosemite because the last time that he was there the saloon-keeper was found so ignorant he did not know how to prepare his favorite drink. You will see by the inclosed clipping that the government is already caring for the Valley. You may be sure I will do all I can to make Mrs. Woodhouse's visit to Yosemite as pleasant as possible. It is not likely that I will be able to accompany her. I must settle down to work on that Yosemite book. I hope Owen's book will be a grand success, and that everything may be so arranged that you will all come flying hither together, to our great delight.Faithfully yours, [John Muir]
