Martinez, March 27. 1899.My dear Mr GilderMuirI shall be very glad to call on Mrs [Foote?] the first time Im in the city & tell her the Berkshire Hills story with all its blessed Gilders & glaciers. This will be a job after my own heart. Sargent sent me word that you were writing a book on Brook farms glaciers. Send me the icy stanzas you have written after striking out the semi humor & making the semi serious whole it must be a blank shame for a poet to write disrespectfully of glaciers even bucolic or agricultural glaciers.I thank you for your kind suggestions about "Recollections of a Naturalist". Possibly I may try something of the sort some of these days though my life on the whole has been level & uneventful & therefore hard
