Martinez, Dec. 28. 1898My dear SellersMrs Muir & I were greatly shocked & distressed by the news of your accident. You must have suffered horribly & long in any case but after the ligaments & muscles were swollen & inflamed to have your arm set 48 hours after your fall was enough to kill. I am glad you have weathered the storm & I devoutly hope that soon you will be perfectly free from pain & sound & strong as ever. I have always felt that sidewalks & everything artifical & civilized were dangerous & this dreadful accident is surely enough to drive you into the wilderness. Providence has to all but kill us to get us into safety
