Remember me to Susan & Jane Mather & Mr [Notman?]. We are all about as usual Mrs. Reid is rather feeble & most of us have had the Grippe - what you call influenza. Mrs. Muir is just recovering from an attack of it.Mr [Howie?] came at the beginning of winter thinking to learn the business of fruitraising but his health was not good & he soon decided to go back to England. He left us more than a month ago. I see that James Hay is making a name as an artist. Yes you told me before that little Tim died & I can easily understand how hard that was to bear - for I like dogs. I hope Sam will prove as true & affectionate & wise. We have a little rough haired Scottish Terrier that Helen plays with most all day I'm working away at another little book Remember me to the Hays when next you write them - Ever truly & affectionately your cousinJohn Muir02413
